I am a little disappointed that I forgot that Marcy Playground was playing at the House of Bricks in Des Moines last week. All last week I had the feeling that I had something to do over the weekend but could not remember what, where, or when. Work has been particularly hectic the past month and my brain has gone from a good brain to a swiss cheese style brain stuffed with facts and figures for work but little else.
I am not a huge MP fan, but if you take away the god awful Sex and Candy they have a pretty solid alternative pop catalog.
To commiserate, here is Blood in Alphabet Soup.
"...if you take away the god awful Sex and Candy..."
ReplyDeleteWait, they had other songs? Honestly that is the only one I know of. The only thing that pops in there when I think of MP.
They got so pigeon holed by Sex & Candy that no one ever gave the rest of their songs a chance. I was working college radio at the time and basically forbade the DJs from playing it any more...give another song a try. Even most people who owned the CD never seemed to have listened to the rest of it more than once...which is a shame because it was pretty decent.
ReplyDeleteSame thing happens all the time though - Saigon Kick, Extreme, Faith No More, Blind Melon, etc...all basically one hit wonders since they were so defined (wrongly) by one song.
ooooh i just had a nostalgic moment...me driving my convertible VW rabbit to Lincoln, Nebraska....blaring MP (on tape), the summer of 97. OH, and a little bit of Natalie Imbruglia. Don't judge me. :)
