Weird Christmas Thoughts

Last night while trying to sleep - I have been semi-ill and sleeping even worse than normal - I had a weird thought about Christmas. I found it kind of absurd that Santa Clause keeps a Naughty and Nice List. It is supposed to be the holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ - I mean what happened to all the Sermon on the Mount stuff of turning the other cheek, giving to everyone who asks, and do unto others... How about "Judge not, lest ye be judged?" I understand trying to teach children to be good and do the right thing but this seems more like bribery and threats. Both of which I am NOT against but it definitely doesn't seem like the spirit of Christmas or Christianity. I am beginning to think the whole thing is a facade.

You raise an interesting point. By the Christian logic, the naughty children would be even more loved (and therefore receive more presents) at Christmas time and Santa would work harder to reward them. Jesus worked hard to save the corrupt and did not pander to the pious, so it makes sense that the naughty list would be more of a guide with which to bring the bad (sinful, if you will) children around to the side of the just and good rather than a tool for punishment. If modern Christianity was less hypocritical and judgemental, then the whole Christmas thing would make more sense...
Sorry, I did not want to sound preachy or like a holier-than-thou, born-again a-hole. I look at religion through the lens of a socioligist and historian...

I think you are confusing Santa and Jesus again... They are different people.. There is a great Southpark that explains that Jesus died saving santa, and He is the resaon for the season, not Santa....
